Phone call with CL re: potential UC identity theft fraud claim. ▷ CL alleges that his cousin stole his identity and filed a pandemic UC claim using his Social Security number, date of birth, and name, preventing him from filing his own claim. ▷ CL stated that when he attempted to file on July 15, 2020, he was told a claim already existed under his information. ▷ CL reports he contacted the UC fraud division during the pandemic, was given a ticket number, and received a callback approximately nine months later, at which point the representative dismissed his concern and ended the call. ▷ CL stated he filed a police report identifying his cousin as the individual who committed the identity theft. ▷ Explained to CL that the Department would need to conduct an investigation to establish fraud before any remedy could be pursued. ▷ Advised CL that pandemic UC benefits are no longer available as an active program, but that an identity theft-based fraud claim through the Department may still be a viable avenue. ▷ CL noted significant personal health and personal circumstances that have compounded his difficulties over the past several years. ▷ Advised CL that I will contact the Department and request that they reach out to him to investigate the identity theft claim.

This is a PUA claimant who is seeking our help now... this may likely just be a C and A case but see if there's anything our tax unit can help with otherwise.
